Loosely based on one of the most famous swashbuckling novels, a wonderful story of friendship, revenge and love. The setting: France; the early 18th century. Young Lagardère enters into the service of the Duc de Nevers, who has secretly married the beautiful Inès, promised by her father to the Prince de Gonzague, Nevers' cousin. On learning of the marriage, Gonzague decides to get rid of his rival and the child Inès has given him. After trapping the Duc in an ambush, he kills him like a coward, but not before the Duc manages to cut Gonzague's hand. As he lies dying, Nevers tells Lagardère, arrived too late to help, the secret of his swordsmanship and asks him to protect his daughter. From then on, Lagardère has only one purpose: to avenge his master and friend, and to keep little Aurore for her father's murderers. 16 years on, after wiping out one by one the men who trapped Nevers, Lagardère is still on the trail of the actual killer. As for Gonzague, he continues to seek the hand of Inès. He promises to find her child and convinces her that Largardère killed Nevers and kidnapped Aurore.
