Toussaint Louverture

HD

Length 2 x 90' Year 2011

Format Mini-series Genre Fiction

These 2x90’ mini-series tell the birth and the apogee of a symbol for slave emancipation, Toussaint Louverture. This modern hero led Haiti to independence at the beginning of the 19th century. To avoid falling into a chronicle and follow Toussaint’s story chronologically, we chose a narrative structure built around a questioning of Toussaint by Etienne Pasquier, emissary for Napoleon Bonaparte, when Toussaint was prisoner in the Fort de Joux in the Jura. This structure enables us to explore the strong elements of his life, enlightened by Pasquier’s questions. At first, Toussaint is recalcitrant to the questioning, but ends up properly answering. He sees the perfect occasion to tell Bonaparte and posterity that his fight led to black emancipation, population enslaved for more than two centuries.
