San Sebastian to shake the walls of the Victoria Eugenia theatre.
The Bad Plus explode every pre-conceived idea of what the
sound produced by a piano-based jazz trio should be and they set
the critics on fire, just like the audience.
The group brings together three musicians from Minneapolis (the
city of Prince ), who find their inspiration in jazz and pop-rock.
The trio moves off the beaten track to offer a fusion of the drummer
from Happy Apple, the bass player for Mark Turner and Bill
Carrothers and the pianist, the latest pearl on the Blue Note label.
The Bad Plus present a music that is free and disconcerting.
While hiding behind revivals, the trio has a ball with style! They often take a rock classic and give it real originality with
a humorous result. Pianist Ethan Iverson, bass Reid Anderson, and drummer Dave King are little clowns who blend
pleasure with laughter. With the help of rock singer Wendy Lewis, an old friend of Dave, the trio now take on Nirvana,
Yes, Pink Floyd and the Bee Gees.
It goes without saying that the Victoria Eugenia theatre in San Sebastian really shook to the neuritic rhythms of an
insolent and fun-loving jazz. A great moment of the Summer festival.
