Synopsis
This classic film footage contains Grammy® Award winning Otis Redding's most exciting performances from the 1966 Stax Volt European tour and the Monterey International Pop Music Festival 1967 recorded only months before his premature death aged 26. Directed by legendary music director Don Alan Pennebaker (Don't Look Back - Bob Dylan's 1965 tour of England, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars 1973) the film presents Otis Redding performing his much-loved classics including; Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay, My Girl, and Try A Little Tenderness. The rare footage of the Stax Volt tour in Europe also features legendary artists such as Booker T & the MGs, Sam and Dave, and the Mar-keys. The Monterey International Pop Music Festival was the first commercial American rock festival taking place two years before Woodstock. Attended by a mainly white hippie audience Otis's soul music of black origin stole the show. His closing words after his astonishing finale of Try a Little Tenderness were devastatingly poignant: "I've got to go now, but I don't want to."
